St Peter's Swimming Club Coaches
A highly qualified and dedicated team
Our coaching team includes World Triathlon competitor Zach Taylor and former Club swimmer Paige Steen.
We also currently have Alistair Johnson working with our coaching team on a part-time basis.
Zach Taylor
Head Coach
Zach has a natural passion for sport and has recently finished studying toward a bachelor's degree at Waikato University in Health, Sport, and Human Performance, as well as coaching at St Peter’s.
Zach represented New Zealand in the 2018 ITU World Triathlon in Gold Coast, Australia, where he placed 7th in his age group, and the 2019 Devonport OTU Sprint Triathlon Oceania Championships. He has also competed at a national level in swimming, specialising in backstroke events.
Zach joined the coaching team at the end of 2019, and was appointed Head Coach in 2024. He is extremely eager and passionate about the sport and helping a variety of swimmers reach their potential.
Alastair Johnson
Coach
Alistair has a wealth of knowledge in teaching and coaching swimming at all levels and recently finished a 4-year tenure with Swimming NZ as the National Development Leader - Coach & Athlete Development.
During his career, Alistair has been the head coach of several clubs in NZ and abroad and the National Youth Coach of Scottish Swimming.
With a vast knowledge and experience around school-age programmes and youth development, Alistair adds significant value to our programme, coaches and most importantly - our swimmers.
Paige Steen
Coach
Paige joined the club in 2016 as a swimmer passionate about the sport. Now she is coaching in the junior end of our club, whilst studying full time for a Bachelor of Teaching, Primary at The University of Waikato.
Paige competed across a variety of events from pool swimming to open water. She competed at Division II and travelled to Adelaide, Australia twice, where she competed against high level swimmers.
Paige is eager to continue her coaching career and provide guidance to swimmers so they can reach their potential.
